David J. Wright, M.D., is a fellowship-trained orthopedic hand surgeon with expertise in treating all hand and wrist disorders. He serves as Assistant Clinical Professor and Associate Program Director for the Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of California, Irvine. He has a special interest in brachial plexus injuries and microsurgical reconstruction.
In-office wide-awake hand surgery is performed without any sedation or general anesthesia. Using this technique, hand and wrist procedures may be performed with the patient fully conscious and able to return home and experience faster recovery.
Brachial plexus injuries affect the network of nerves controlling arm movement and sensation. Advanced treatments, including nerve repair, grafting, or transfers, can restore function and relieve pain.
Cubital Tunnel Release Surgery is a procedure to relieve pressure on the ulnar nerve, which passes through the elbow's cubital tunnel. This surgery involves removing tissue or bone that may be compressing the nerve, alleviating symptoms like numbness, tingling, and pain in the arm and hand for improved function.
Dr. Wright has published over 25 peer reviewed articles. He is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery and also an Associate Residency Program Director of the Orthopedic Surgery Residency here at UC Irvine.
